Precious Moment Interruptions

I’ve learned many lessons this year, and one of the most important is to take advantage of precious moment interruptions because they pass quickly. They often arrive unnoticed and may disappear without announcing their departure. Moreover, once the moments are gone, you can never get them back.

I’ve been guilty of pushing valuable moments aside because they were disruptive. They threw off my schedule, leaving me in a race against the clock to complete my checklist.

Let me acknowledge what took me far too long to recognized; my checklist isn’t that important! It’s my creation. I choose every task on it, and I frequently make it without planning for precious moment interruptions.

Precious Moment Interruptions

Precious moment interruptions are those opportunities that are more important than anything else you might be doing throughout your day. They may seem insignificant and distracting but are more valuable than any other moment.

These precious moments appear in the form of a little girl dressed in her princess attire, asking you to pull yourself away from whatever has your attention to partake in a cup of tea with her stuffed bears and bunnies.

They arrive as a dinosaur in the hands of a young boy stomping through your mound of oh-so-important paperwork.

They are snuggling up to read that book you’ve read 100 times over, filling his heart with the love he longs to feel.

They’re good night prayers even when it’s after her designated bedtime.

They’re a “Got a second?” text message from your adult daughter or “How’s your day?” from your college son.

They are phone calls you ignore, forgetting they may potentially be the last opportunity you’ll have to chat with the loved one on the other end.

They come as a whisper, inviting you to spend time in prayer with Him, reading the Word, allowing Him to have a piece of your day.

The list of precious moment interruptions is unlimited.

Take Time For The Moments

Take time for the moments that vanish as quickly as they appear. The impact of each moment could change lives. Maybe it changes yours or, better yet, someone else’s.

Hold the door for a stranger and offer them an uplifting word.

Listen to the story that doesn’t interest you.

Sit quietly and hold their hand.

Relax into their hug and stay until they let you go.

Take the trip.

Climb the mountain.

Watch the sunset.

Close your eyes, breathe in the gift of life and let God speak to you.

Live as if today is your last.

Reflextion

We may feel as if we’re invincible, but the reality is another moment isn’t promised. God is the only one who knows how many breaths we will take. We need to make the best of each one given.

I’m still working on noticing and acknowledging special moments. I’ve gotten better at it, but I realize it’s a work in progress. I have to be purposeful, looking for every precious moment presented to me. Then I must respond to every opportunity given.

Precious Moment Interruptions Pass Quickly

Take some time to reflect on this past week. Did you let a few precious moments pass? Write down each one you let slip away. Pray over them individually, asking God to allow you another opportunity.

Is it possible to recreate the moment? If yes, do so. You may even consider offering an apology for letting the first chance to slip away.

God willing, tomorrow will be waiting for you tomorrow. But in case it isn’t, don’t put off what you can do today. Precious moment interruptions pass quickly.

Well said Lana. I have let precious interruptions slip by me. All too often they can’t be recaptured. As I the years go by, I am more & more aware of the importance of adjusting my plans to accommodate those precious, sometimes, once in a lifetime interruptions. ❤
